Xenogears Review

October 3, 2012 1 comment

It’s not often that you come across a game that truly changes everything.  A game that you get lost in and experience something you want everyone to experience.  Xenogears was one of those games for me when I played it back at its release in 1998.  Squaresoft created an RPG that would combine a deep story, a unique graphical style, and a unique combat system.  Even to this day, I still get lost in it. Before I get too caught up, let me get into the review. Read more…

Top 20 Playstation 1 Games

July 11, 2012 2 comments

To be honest, the age of Playstation was huge for me. The amount of producers that flocked to this console produced a library so huge it makes most consoles blush. That said, pinning down top# lists is a hard thing to manage. However, after some time of arguing with myself, I managed to compile my top 20 favorite titles of the PS1 era.  Hope you enjoy! Final Fantasy VI Review

April 18, 2012 Leave a comment

It’s been so long since I first played this Super NES classic. Back in 1994 it was named the 3rd installment of Final Fantasy in the US. Of course for Japan, it was the 6th.  Since then it has been remade/ported for Gameboy Advanced, Playstation 1, Wii, PSN, and soon 3DS.

Story:
The story follows a band of warriors that come together to thwart the plans of an evil empire that seeks to draw the magic from beings known as Espers.  The Espers were magic infused humans who were sealed away into another world after a catastrophic war known as the War of the Magi, one thousand years prior. Final Fantasy IX Review

Final Fantasy 9 was one of those titles that I just for some reason, passed by.  I remember subtly playing it back when it came out.  I was so excited for it because it was being hailed as bringing the classic FF back to the new.  The old classes of black, white, blue mages, dragoons, etc.  It also brought back and old style of almost 3D renderings of cartoonish sprites.  Alas, it didn’t last long.  I fell off from it out of disinterest and about that time my interest turned to MMOs and FPSs.

Time to correct the past.  I snagged it on both PS1 but ended up grabbing it on the PSN to play on my PSP.  I jumped right in and started bashing baddies.  Sadly however I ran into a rut again.  For some reason, this game has a very dry start that is hard to get passed for me.  But I pushed through it finally and I’m glad to say it’s finally somewhat interesting now.  So near the end, here is my review. Playstation Vita (Formally NGP) Confirmed Price!

June 6, 2011 Leave a comment

Sony has officially announced the release price of PSVita (Can I call it PSV yet?).

WiFi Ready: 249.99

WiFi and 3G: 299.99  (No word on AT&T rates)

Watch the full reveal on the video at the end of this post.

Dear goodness I’m so excited for this release.  Not only does it have a powerful platform that brings nearly PS3 quality gaming to portable realm, it’s also designed for gaming.  Dual sticks, touch screen, networking, good starting lineup of games, and a price to match 3DS.

The Starting Line-up: I’m so glad to see PSV will not flop their start up like Nintendo did.  Solid titles like Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf, and Wipeout will lead the march.  There’s also Little Deviants, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, Modnation Racers, and Super Stardust.  Now that’s what I call a start up.  Not a fighter, a puzzle, and a dog.  I don’t mean to pick on 3DS, but they are the comparison here and you have to have a solid lineup to justify 250 bucks.

Xenogears hits PSN

April 2, 2011 Leave a comment

For those that don’t know (and apparently I didn’t for a while), Xenogears made it to PS1 classics on Playstation Network.  Xenogears was a epic RPG released on Playstation 1 back in February of 1998.  Interestingly enough the rerelease on PSN was release February of this year.  Coincidence?  Hehe, anywho.  In the PS2 days, a prequal was made called Xenosaga.  It dated a few thousand years before Xenogears time frame if I recall correctly.  While Xenosaga did provide a great story and graphics, it just didn’t have the same great gameplay (IMO).

Xenogears right off the bat, places you in the perspective of Fei, a boy that was taken in by a small village after he was wounded and without a hint of his past.  In this world, there are 2 main factions fighting an endless war with robots called “Gears”.  These gears are relics from an age long lost dug up from ruins under the surface.  Gears are basically huge mech suits that people ride and combat eachother.  You soon find that Fei has a tragic past and a unknown future.  I won’t go into any more detail without risk of spoiling! Final Fantasy XII Full Review

March 6, 2010 1 comment

FF12Okay, so finally done with Final Fantasy XII, well the story line that is. I got a bit to say, so this will be an extremely long post. If you just want the nitty gritty, you can skip to the end.

Okay I’m going to break this down into Story, Characters, Gameplay, World, Sound, and Overall aspects.

Story:
The story was quite deceiving at first, but ended up being a very solid story line that had alot of potential. However I felt how it was laid out could have been better. What I mean by that is people talking in riddles and the time in which certain parts were laid out, it often left me confused and trying to figure out why something happened. I felt Arcadius as a whole could have been explained better. I had trouble following how it was governed, what power each sector had, and why it turned out as it did in the end. But in the end, after being kind of annoyed by many aspects of the game, I realized I had a good story consumed. Read more…
