Best of 2012 So Far!

August 16, 2012 2 comments

As we pass the middle hump of the year and head into the second half, it’s always fun to look back at the games we played and decide which was the best.  I enjoy making these lists for the entire year, however with this closing season so jam packed, I wanted to make sure I kept the first half in perspective. So here it is, the best games I’ve played in 2012 so far.

1. Gravity Rush – Easily rounding out to be my Game Of The Year for 2012. Gravity Rush managed to shatter the dull of repetitious gaming with a fresh and beautifully crafted idea. Controlling gravity to save a mysterious and dangerous world all while controlling a protagonist that was just lovable. It managed to mend great gameplay, unique concepts, beautiful art style, and fun characters together for a great game. Read more…

Nintendo 3DS Conference E3 2012 Rundown

Woohoo! Time for some new titles for my 3DS. In this post I will be covering what was shown at the 2012 E3 Nintendo 3DS conference and my immediate thoughts.

Castlevania Mirror of Fate – Beautiful art style and great looking pseudo 2D platforming action adventure. Direct damage with a chain whip, less damaging area effect attack, and special attack for higher damage. You also have a finisher attack to finish off your opponent. You also have a dodge and block capability. Secondary weapons include a boomerang. There’s also platforming with whip swinging and double jumps. There’s 4 playable characters including Alucard, each with their own unique abilities. Tons to find and mark touch screen map for future notice. Fall 2012 Read more…

Been holding off on the previous gen of DS because it’s essentially the same cost as the 3DS? Need to replace your broken down DS? Well, whatever your reason, Nintendo has announced they will be dropping the price of the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSiXL starting May 20th. DSi will be $99 and the DSiXL will be $129.

Great stuff! I think I may need to replace my DSi after destroying the screen playing The World Ends With You

The World Ends With You Review

May 8, 2012 Leave a comment

The World Ends With You was originally released in Japan in mid 2007 for the Nintendo DS.  It was later released in the US in early 2008.  Since then it has had quite a bit of success, a cult following, and hundreds of near perfect ratings and reviews.  So what took so long for a SquareEnix fan such as my myself to play this title?  Well, put frankly, the DS platform really.  However, we’ll get to that later.

Story:
TWEWY follows Neku, a very depressing young boy that seems to just hate everyone. Without warning, he finds himself waking up on the ground of a busy crossing. Noone seems to acknowledge him, and he can’t seem to remember anything. Shortly after regaining himself he’s attacked by strange looking creatures. While fleeing, he runs into a girl named Shiki who tells him to make a pact with her to fight the creatures. After successfully getting out of danger, Shiki reveals to him that he’s part of a “Game.” As part of this game, they are placed in a mirrored parallel world where they face off against weekly challenges and survive against the attacks of Reapers using creatures known as Noise. Failure to win at any of these aspects result in “Erasure” which is to be stomped out of existence. Read more…

Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light Review

February 7, 2012 Leave a comment

Final Fantasy as a whole has come from an epic beginning and through the years has definitely set itself on the pedestal for bringing JRPGs to the western audience. While I don’t agree with what direction they have taken since that amazing first 3 quarters, it’s safe to say it’s still an amazing franchise. So while in the latest titles from their main titles has strayed from the classic forula, it seems they have kept the handhelds to pick up the slack.

Thus enters Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light for the Nintendo DS. Originally titled Final Fantasy Gaiden, it was released in 2009 in Japan followed by 2010 in US. I have mixed feelings on it, so let’s hop right into it. Read more…

Solatorobo Review

October 30, 2011 1 comment

Solatorobo – Red The Hunter is definitely one of those few games to change the norm and bring out some classic gameplay.  Brought to the North American market by Xseed.  While late after the release of the 3DS, this DS title takes the DS to it’s limits and provides some great gameplay for DS owners, and 3DS owners alike.

Story: This game takes place on many islands floating in the sky.  Populated by humanlike dogs and cats, these people move from island to island on aircrafts and use robots to complete certain tasks.  Also in this world exists people called Hunters who do tasks for money be it killing monsters or taking out the trash.  One such hunter is the main protagonist Red.  On his trusty robot, and joined by his partner and sister Chocolat, nothing stands in his way.
