First off, if you DO want to focus all the large spheres you can in one or two specific roles. Then take the Boost bonusses ASAP. The game DOES offer you a tutorial which explains everything you have, minus what Serah and Noel are best at, and what each class provides as a bonus on the Bonus Spheres. It DOES however tell you, that the “SAB Bonus Boost1” (for e.g.) will only trigger when you put Saboteur in the Bonus Spheres.

And as you mentioned, there is a limit to how many Bonus Spheres you get. (Seemingly at least… by now I have each character up to 99 in a single role [COM for Noel, Rav for Serah, purely because I have monsters filling the other roles usually] and 30’s-40’s in 3 of the other roles. And there are STILL Bonus Spheres showing up). Regardless of how many Bonus Spheres there are, you can only put sooo many levels into each class. So, getting the boosts for your primary roles makes a HUGE difference. For E.G. I went Serah ATB+1, MED, RAV Bonus 1. Noel I went COM bonus 1, RAV bonus +1, Accessory +20 for the first three crysterium bonusses. Noel’s RAV is equal level to Serah’s COM. And at this point, after equipping them in such a way that their equips give the same bonuses, Noel’s Strength is a good 40 points higher than Serah’s Magic, and his Magic is a solid 20 points higher than her Strength.

So, in short, while ATB is VERY useful (I actually regret not raising Noel’s sooner), when you focus roles as this guide suggests (and I did from my own choosing before reading this out of curiosity on what you figured out) getting those bonuses early also makes a huge difference.

Yay having to make difficult strategic decisions. (Side note however, if you want one character playing MED asap while not using them as lead, then NOT boosting the gauge may be a better choice. As character’s controlled by the comp always wait till their ATB gauge is full, and sometimes that might cause them to wait too long to heal enough. <.< Hapened to me in one boss battle, had to switch over to Serah and take direct control with that wonderful Triangle quick-action after three bars filled to keep the team alive. This is simply a suggestion however.)

      @Kitsune_kun
Awesome input. Boosts are definitely important. And you’re right about pets healing, they are slow >_< Best way I remedied that is to Triangle out and throw a quick Potion to the party.

Would be great if you can tell when the crystarium gets expanded e.g. every x number of crystarium levels. Thanks!

    • February 5, 2012 at 11:42 pm

I’ll get it done! Thanks for the feedback Justin!

so what exactly does the com bonus boost do? is it so that when i have that bonus boost and i put com on a large sphere, i get an extra atk stat? or does it just boost all the stats given for whenever i put com in any node?

sorry i wasnt really clear, for example:
i dont have com boost I, i put com in a large sphere and get +1 atk bonus
i have com boost I, i put com in a large sphere and instead of +1 atk i get +2 atk bonus?

so in essence that would be the reason why youd want to get the boosts earlier? so you can get the MOST bonus out of placing com in large spheres?

    thanks in advance!

    • February 5, 2012 at 11:20 pm

The boosts just improve you in those classes. They don’t effect your crystariums in any way. So COM Boost would make you deal more damage. Ravager increases chain bonuses. MED boost increases how much you heal. So on. so forth. I updated the guide with each bonus boost listed.

      Hope this helps toe!

Nice guide .. but it still leaves me with 1 question unanswered. Does the crystarium stop giving skills after level 60? Because I don’t seem to get a list of next skills anymore. :/

    • February 5, 2012 at 11:41 pm

Once you’ve obtained the entire spell list, you’re set. So yes the lack of spells in the next list is that sign. Example Serah finishes Medic pretty quick as she lacks quite a few spells like Cura which she can’t obtain. I havn’t found any solid numbers but it does seem like the cutoff for no more spells in between 30-60 levels depending on the class.

Great guide. Really appreciate your help. One question, how’d you determine the CP requirement for different crystarium stages? Tracked and added all the CP you spent?

    • February 7, 2012 at 12:13 am

Thanks for the kind words xanhisam. You’re correct. It notifies you of CP cost as you progress.

I myself have compiled a guide and I just wanted to know how accurate the crystarium progression part was. Thanks again!
        Here’s a link to it if you’re interested —-> http://segmentnext.com/2012/02/06/final-fantasy-13-2-crystarium-roles-paradigms-decks/
I’ve made tables for role bonuses and stat bonuses as well. Hope you find it useful. Feel free to use any information that you like in your guides!

Without getting sab for noel you wont have any other way of increasing STR via bonus after commando is lvl 99 from what I see. if anyone cares lol

    • February 7, 2012 at 12:16 am

Thanks for the great point Robert. This is true, on Even Levels you will obtain more Strength. Which is a great way of furthering your progression once Commando is maxed.

I’m curious to hear what your prefered paradigm decks look like, based on the strategy you use to upgrade your characters. Which monsters have you found to be most helpful given the classes that you’ve assigned your main characters? I’m not sure how far along in the game you are, but I’d like to know which monsters I should focus on (and their associated crystarium) near the beginning, middle, and end of the game.

    • February 8, 2012 at 11:09 pm

Paradigm decks really depend on what area or what I’m fighting, but standard I’m generally:
      Noel / Serah / Pet
Syn / Sab / Sen —-For Turning the Tables
Com / Rav / Com —-For building
Com / Rav / Sen —-Safe attacking
Com / Com / Com —-After Stagger
Med / Med / Sen —-Healing

I’m just before the last boss, currently messing around. For pets, I mainly focused on building and maintaining a solid Sentinel as neither Noel nor Serah is built on Sen. Starting with the Pulsework Knight in Bresha Ruins 5AF. Later replacing him with Bunkerbeast in Yaschas Massif 100AF. For Med I started with Cait Sith and later replaced him with a Spiranthes in Yaschas Massif 10AF I believe. However once I got Med built on Serah/Noel, I never used Med pets, they just don’t heal well in heat of battle. On the offensive side I had an Albino Lobo from Bresha Ruins 5AF for a good while, before I replaced him with Greater Behemoth from the Augusta Tower 200AF

Behemoth and Bunkerbeast have been my solid team for most the second half of the game. I’ll be working on building my dreamteam next. Maybe check out Twilight Odin and my recently received Golden Chocobo.

    • February 10, 2012 at 4:00 pm

To give you an update (and I may make a full write-up of it), I decided on my final team. Without getting into some overly complicated monsters to get (like Odin).
      SEN-Pulse Gladiator-Archylte Steppe ???AF
      COM-Gold Chocobo-Dying World 700AF
      RAV-Cloudburst-Archylte Steppe ???AF

      Noel/Serah/Pet
      SYN/SAB/SEN
      COM/RAV/RAV
      COM/COM/COM
      COM/MED/RAV
      COM/RAV/SEN
      MED/MED/SEN

It would seem that I screwed up my characters from early in the game (I’m in the last area of the story) oh the joys of playing RPGs without walkthroughs -_-
Will I still be able to at least complete the game to see the ending… and then ill go back and follow a walkthrough to have a decent team?

    • February 13, 2012 at 11:36 pm

According to the people who made the official guide, there are standard stats that you get no matter how you build in the crystarium that should get you through the game if you go too much in one direction. Meaning, while the crystarium is a great boost, it’s only to maximize you, not break you.

I’d imagine if you level up quite a bit, you should be fine to beat the last boss. Just don’t expect to kill it at a low level, ill-equiped, etc.

i was wondering can you level up all stats like com, rav, med etc for serah and noel all to lvl 99 or can you only level up certain ones to 99 ? thanx

    • March 7, 2012 at 12:50 pm

All classes (COM,RAV,SYN,etc) can be raised to level 99 by both characters.

  11. March 12, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Hi, I just want to know… As I plan to grind in a hardcore fashion once I am towards the end. Does it matter if I didn’t really pay attention to those “Big spheres” and bonuses? Or will that just make the ride a little harder?

Short: If I eventually end up grinding all roles to 99, is there still something I can miss or does clearing all 22 stages give you all the possible bonuses?

    • March 12, 2012 at 9:30 pm

Yes, you can miss out on stat bonuses. The game doesn’t become unplayable though, since you do get a minimum amount of stats by default for leveling classes.

In the end, you can max out all your classes and get a set amount of stats. However, placing specific classes on large spheres will allow you to push your characters to a higher caliber.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need me to clarify in any way.

whats a good strg for you in final boss. and should i vari the the big nodes bonus or all put them to com i need a optimal build plz

    • May 23, 2012 at 11:17 pm

      Regarding the Boss:
I had trouble the first time I faced the last boss. I was slightly underleveled and didn’t have anything close to a dream team of pets. Other hassle I ran into was that I played 99% of the game with my pet being a SEN. Which of course the last boss has almost no use for SEN except for reducing damage taken during big attacks.

My first tip would be to examine your characters and pets. In classes, I made sure I had at least Serah complete in Ravager and that I decked her out in the best +Magic I had. For Noel I made sure his Commando was complete and decked out in +Attack.

For Pets I had Gold Chocobo (COM), Cloudburst (RAV), and Pulsework Gladiator (SEN). Of course, deck them up in best stats; +Attack for Chocobo, +Magic for Cloudburst, and +HP for Pulsework. Pulsework’s special is pretty useless, but utilize Cloudbursts and Gold Chocobo’s every chance you get. FYI, Cloudburst and Pulsework are in Archylte Steppe ???AF, Golden Chocobo is in Dying World 700AF.

Some good tips during fighting the last boss:
-Keep in mind that Potions in this game are extremely useful. Fill your inventory with as much potions and wound potions as you can carry. Use them to keep yourself healed without having to resort to switching to MED. If you’re confortable with using potions, you can even experiment with getting Serah a grimoire hat and use her in battle to get the most out of your potions. I used this method to beat the tougher bosses in the game (there are some!).
-If you see the boss building up for his big attacks, switch to SEN/SEN/SEN quickly and top off your health with Potions.
-It’s all about maxing your damage output and lowering your downtime. Especially with his ability to heal and remove stagger in certain encounters.

Paradigms is a bit harder to remember for me. Just some must haves:
      NOEL / SERAH / PET
COM / RAV / RAV – Building Stagger
COM / RAV / COM – Attacking During Stagger
SEN / SEN / SEN – Switch To Before Big Attacks
MED / MED / SEN – Emergency Healing
SYN / SAB / SEN – Buffing and Debuffing.

      Regarding the optimal build:
It depends on what focus you want for your characters. I went +Attack as Noel, and +Magic for Serah. This means for Noel, big nodes are COM and Even Level SAB. For Serah, big nodes are RAV and SYN/SAB Odd Level.

what can you tell me about chichu

    June 1, 2012 at 6:54 am

Let’s say I will use Noel as com and Serah for rav almost always. Isn’t it better to get Noel lvl 99 for commando and start levelling other roles afterwards? Same for Serah with ravager role etc?

    • June 1, 2012 at 8:39 am

Simply put, yes. If that is your primary used role. However some fights may be easier for you if your get abilities from SAB, SYN, and SEN. Example being when Serah has to fight Caius alone or for people that like to have their characters heal well. If you havn’t had a problem, then I wouldn’t guess you’d have to worry about it. It’s definitely different for everyone’s playstyle and it won’t kill the game if you just rush those to 99 because you can always just level up the others later if you run into a problem.

  15. June 27, 2012 at 1:30 pm

    chris :
what can you tell me about chichu

It’s basically one of the bests commando allies.

    Kenjori :

DEFINETLY NOT! I’ve restarted the game twice because of that. It’s better maxing out the rav and syn for Serah by earning the most Big Crystal bonuses for Magic you can, and same thing for STR for Noel for Com and Sab.

  16. September 21, 2012 at 5:00 pm

I messed up on my crystarium. My friend told me it will going to be hard when im going to increase one last crystarium. My last crystarium that i have to level it to 99 is: for noel sab and for serah syn. Well my orb needs 2k plus per orb. But my friend told me in the end it will be the same max stats, but 2k per orb, i think i have to fight in colliseum, and fight like 100times to omega xD. Well, thats ok i beat the game. Im waiting for the next ff.
